Vietnam is a tiny country in South Asia and shares its borders with China to the north, Laos to the northwest, Cambodia to the southwest, and Malaysia across the South China Sea to the southeast. While planning a trip to Vietnam one need to start working on visa approval 6 months prior to the arrival date. There are a number of rules that you need to follow while applying for visa so here is a little idea of what all you need to do to get your visa approved.

Vietnam Visa on Arrival

  • Vietnam Visa on Arrival is valid for those traveling to the Vietnamese land by air. It is valid for 30 days and can be extended up to 3 months.
  • You need to fill up the online application form that gets you a Visa approval letter.
  • You also need to pay the Visa service fees and Visa stamping fees online.
  • Usually it takes 2-3 days for your visa approval letter to arrive.
  • In urgent cases it can be done in just 1 day.
  • You get your visa at the arrival counter once you enter Vietnam. You are required to show your visa approval letter with required documents & fees at Immigration Counter to have visa stamped onto your passport.

Vietnam Visa from Embassy

If you are travelling to Vietnam by road, rail or waterways, you need to obtain your visa directly from the Embassy.
You need to fill the application form and submit it with signature, photograph and original passport attached to the form. Hard copy of all the other documents required must also be attached and then sent to by post.

Fee for stamping visa, other current fees such as visa approval arrangement fee, processing fee, shipping, handling and expedited services, etc also need to be sent in the form of money order, cashier’s check or company check payable to “EMBASSY OF VIETNAM."

It takes around 5-6 days for visa to get approved in normal days.In urgent situations the process takes 1-2 days. If approved, your passport is stamped and sent back to you.

Visa Not Required for Vietnam

  • Citizens of Brunei do not require a visa for stays up to 14 days.
  • Citizens of Belarus, Denmark, Finland, France, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Russia do not require a visa for stays up to 15 days.
  • Citizens of Philippines do not require a visa for stays up to 21 days.
  • Citizens of Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Cambodia do not require a visa for stays up to 30 days.
