We will see the remains of Hitler‘s Reichs Chancellery and Gestapo headquarters. We will take you to hidden Nazi bunkers and delve into Berlin‘s underground, where regular Berliners tried to survive Allied fire power. We will trace the gloomy path of Berlin Jews that led to deportation and death.

And finally, you will get to stand on the site of Hitler‘s Führerbunker where Hitler and his cronies were at long last vanquished in the face of approaching Allied troops.

Your Distinct History Guide will be perfect company, bringing history alive with the insider story, tragic tales and encyclopedic knowledge.

We may step into artsy galleries and discover some of Berlin‘s hippest shops.

We plan for dinner at one of Berlin‘s trendiest restaurants. You would never expect one of Berlin‘s yummiest dining places behind the graffiti-covered brick walls of this former industrial warehouse.

Berlin History (2): The Berlin Wall & Cold War Dramas

We will begin at Brandenburg Gate where jubilant Berliner stood celebrating that joyous night in 1989 when the Berlin Wall suddenly crumbled. We will be visiting the remnants of ill-famed Wall ripping through Berlin from 1961 till 1989 and walk across Checkpoint Charlie, where American and Russian tanks faced each other at gunpoint at the height of the Cold War.

A spectacular lunch occasion will be waiting for you in the glass dome on top of the Reichstag Building.

Explore Museum Island – a UNESCO world heritage site – hosting 5 of Germany‘s finest museums. Pergamon Museum displays the giant original Gate of Babylon, excavated by German archeologist and brought to Berlin in the late 19th century.
Or simply board a ship cruising the Spree River and soak in Berlin‘s famous sights. Time permitting still stroll through trendy Prenzlauer Berg with its lovely shops and quaint street cafés.

Depending on your appetite we will be heading to Germany‘s finest fish restaurant or mingle with locals in charming Berlin street restaurant serving local fare.

If you like your DD Scout will forge further plans for the night to come: move on to one of Berlin coolest bars or end a long day enjoying the fabulous piano player in the lobby of Adlon Hotel.

Your Distinct Scout will meet you in the lobby of your hotel after breakfast for a Kiez (local lingo for „neighborhood“) discovery tour.

Berlin‘s Kiezes, such as Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain or Prenzlauer Berg have always been Berlin‘s authentic soul and now form the city‘s pulsating heart. Soak up the atmosphere amidst innovative galleries, original boutiques and eateries and you‘ll see Berlin‘s most creative, young, lively and sometimes extravagant facet. Definitely the best way to experience Berlin‘s unique lifestyle – like a local!

Ideally we‘ll explore Berlin‘s hip neighborhoods by scooter, allowing us to cover greater distance in this short window of time.

For lunch we will certainly find a cool, probably formerly communist street café where leftist students and poets meet over quinoa casserole and double shot macchiatos.

Stroll the narrow streets of the Old Town Centre of Heidelberg, walk up „Philosopher‘s way“ granting exhilarating views of the old city, its old castle and the surrounding valley.
