Tour Itinerary

Day 1 — Willkommen to Berlin

Check into the stylish Arcotel John FBerlin, a deluxe city-center hotel. After time to refresh, join Monica Gruber for dinner at Diekmann Kolonialwaren. A former actress, Ms. Gruber promises engaging conversation and unique insi; into her World War II history and life in Berlin during the Cold War.

Day 2 – Exploring Berlin

A full-day tour begins with our special-invitation visit to the seat of the German Parliament. This exclusive tour within the Reichstag reveals its neo-Classical elements as well as its stunning 1993 renovation and expansion by architect Norman Foster. Continue to the Brandenburg Gate, tour the Jewish Museum and see Checkpoint Charlie. Then visit the Pergamon Museum to explore collection of artifacts from nearly every corner of the ancient world.

Day 3 — Excursion to Potsdam

Travel to Potsdam this morning to tour Sanssouci, the opulent summer retr of Frederick the Great, King of Prussia. Then visit the Cecilienhof; at this grn Tudor-style estate, Truman, Stalin and Churchill met at the 1945 Potsdam Conference to determine the post-war fate of Germany and much of Europe You’ll cross the Glienicker Bridge, which once lead from West Berlin into Er Germany. During the height of the Cold War, this was an infamous spot whi spies were exchanged on foggy November mornings. This evening, we’ve arranged a delightful dinner cruise on the River Spree.

Day 4 – On to Nuremberg

After breakfast,trsvel by luxury motorcoach to Nuremberg where you will check into the 5 star Le Meridien Grand Hotel.

Day 5 — Out and about in Nuremberg

Begin your touring in Luitpoldhain, a large park that looks much as it did 7o years ago when it was the site of Hitler’s most grandiose rallies. After a hearty lunch of Nuremberg bratwurst, explore the medieval Old Town and visit the German National Museum.

Day 6 — Through Bavaria to Munich

Enjoy a scenic drive to Munich with a stop at Dallmayr’s, a generations-old city landmark where there’s time if you wish to sample their world-famous coffee. Your afternoon tour begins in the Marienplatz, a lively square dominated by the lavish neo-Gothic spires of the New Town Hall, built in the late 19th century by King Ludwig II. Visit the world-famous Hofbrauhaus, where the Nazi party held forth, and then check in to the city-center King’s First Hotel. Tonight, sit down to a festive dinner in the famed Ratskeller.

Day 7 — Onward to Berchtesgaden

Join your Trip Leader this morning for a visit to the Nymphenburg Palace. This Baroque and Rococo treasure is the largest palace in Germany, stretching more than half a mile from end to end. You’ll be impressed by its grand halls and salons, decorated with ornate stucco detail and frescoes. At the Museum of Royal Carriages, you’ll be captivated by a collection of horse-drawn vehicles, including an elaborately decorated sleigh used by King Ludwig II. Continue through the Bavarian Alps for a relaxing cruise on Lake Konigsee, nestled below the rugged granite peaks and towering cliffs of Berchtesgaden National Park. Then check in to the 5-star InterContinental Berchtesgaden Resort & Spa, a contemporary mountain retreat with superb views of the surrounding forested peaks.

Day 8 — The Obersalzberg and spectacular Eagle’s Nest

We’ve arranged for a World War II historian to lead your tour of the Obersalzberg Nazi Documentation Center. In his engaging company, you’ll gain fascinating insight into this chapter of Germany’s history. From the Center, you can also descend by steep steps into the intended war rooms of the Third Reich’s final stand. Return to the InterContinental where you’ll have free time to enjoy its spa facilities and resort amenities. Later, rejoin your Trip Leader for a breathtaking journey, ascending 2,000 feet in less than 4 miles in specially-built panoramic coaches. Atop this soaring Alpine peak, you’ll tour the Eagle’s Nest, the infamous tea house built for Adolf Hitler on his 5oth birthday. This evening’s memorable dinner is in a wonderful restaurant nestled below this picturesque mountain peak.
