Day 1:
We arrive this morning to Moscow, Russia’s bustling capital. Our host meets us at the airport and accompanies us to our hotel. The evening is at leisure for relaxation or an optional performance in one of Moscow’s renowned theaters.
Day 2:
Our exploration of Moscow begins with a comprehensive city tour. We begin in inspiring Red Square, where we see St. Basil’s Cathedral, with its multicolored domes and Lenin’s Tomb. We drive through Moscow’s major streets and thoroughfares; stately Tverskaya Street, lively New Arbat Street and elegant Kutuzovsky Prospect. Along the way, we stop at Moscow’s principle attractions; Novodeyvichy Convent, The Bolshoi Theater, Gorky Park and at Moscow’s University, perched high on the Sparrow Hills, we enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the entire city. We also visit the grounds of the Moscow Kremlin, the heart of ancient Moscow. After our city tour, we enjoy lunch in a downtown restaurant. This afternoon, we delve below Moscow’s busy streets to tour the extensive Moscow Metro, built before and after World War II. Each station has a unique decorative motive utilizing semi-precious stones and sculptures. We enjoy a walking tour of Moscow’s bohemian Old Arbat Street, browsing through the souvenir market stalls. You might like to top the afternoon off with lunch jn one of arbat’s elegant cafes, or have your portrait drawn by one of the street artists.
Day 3:
Today is completely at leisure to enjoy independent exploration of Moscow, or take part in an optinal excursion to one of Moscow’s famous sites: The Pushkin Museum of fine Arts, The Tretyakov Gallery etc.
Day 4:
This morning we check out of our hotel and journey to Moscow’s famous Izmailovo Market, a Mecca for souvenirs, handi!rafts and lively bargaining. the balance of the afternoon is at leisure. Late in the evtting, we board our comfortable overnight train for St. Petersburg.
Day 5:
Welcome to Imperial St. Petersburg! Upon arrival, we check into our hotel and have breakfast. After breakfast, we enjoy a comprehensive city tour of St. Petersburg, making stops at the winter Palace, the magnificently restored Church of Our Savoir on the spilt Blood. At the Spit of Basil Island, we get a spectacular view of the Hermitage Museum complex. We drive down elegant Nevsky Prospect, the city’s main thoroughfare. We finish our tour with lunch in a local restaurant. The balance of the day is at leisure. The evening is free for an optional theater performance.
Day 6:
This morning we tour the Hermitage, arguably the world’s most prominent museum, housing over 2.5 million exhibitions, including priceless art from Ancient Egypt to the 20th Century. Following the tour, the rest of the day is free to continue to explore the Hermitage on your own, or enjoy an optional excursion to one of St. Petersburg’s summer palaces. See your local host about tonight’s optional theater possibilities.
Day 7:
Today is completely free for you to enjoy St. Petersburg on your own. Optional excursions are available from your local host. This evening we return to Moscow via overnight train.
Day 8: Transfer to the airport.
